On Wednesday, October 18th, The Darkness came to New York City’s Terminal 5 (QRO venue review) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their iconic debut album, Permission To Land.
And The Darkness were every bit as good as you imagined them being. They fucking shredded and twenty years later they show why they were the forefronts of glam in the aughts. 19 years ago, your ten-year-old correspondent watched the Darkness perform “I Believe In a Thing Called Love” on MTV2 during the European VMAs. Tonight’s anniversary transported back to being that ten-year-old watching the European version of the VMAs (even if you had mistakenly thought it was the American version…) The pageantry in their outfits, the way they just performed on stage, and how they conducted themselves make them one of the bastions of rock and roll music. The Darkness ruled and were as vivacious as you would have thought.
