SATURDAY, JULY 21st

Bassnectar, Water Stage, 11:30 PM – 1:00 AM

Bassnectar
Run the Jewels, Sun Stage, 10:15 PM – 11:30 PM

El-P blew up the Brooklyn rap scene with 2013’s Cancer 4 Cure (QRO review of release party), and brought about his team-up with Killer Mike (QRO photos at a festival) for 2012’s ‘Into the Wild’ tour. Mike & P have deepened that connection (QRO photos at a festival), working together as Run the Jewels (QRO photos at a festival) for two critically acclaimed records, most recently 2015’s Run the Jewels 2 and this year’s critically- and commercially-acclaimed Run the Jewels 3. It’s been really enjoyable watching this duo just love life as they get bigger & bigger (QRO photos from this year), as they come to Float Fest (QRO photos at a festival).
Run the Jewels
Modest Mouse, Water Stage, 9:00 PM – 10:15 PM

Washington State’s Modest Mouse (QRO photos) broke through to mainstream success in 2004 with Good News For People Who Like Bad News, and followed that up by adding Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr for 2007’s We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank (QRO review) – unfortunately, Marr left to join the even younger Cribs and then solo. But they’re still big enough to even headline (QRO photos headlining a festival), are great outdoors (QRO photos outdoors), and in 2015 finally put out their first new record since Sank, Strangers To Ourselves (QRO review).
Modest Mouse
Lil Wayne, Sun Stage, 7:45 PM – 9:00 PM

New Orleans’ Lil Wayne (QRO photos at his own festival) joined Cash Money Records at the age of nine, and has never looked back. First as part of the southern hip-hop group Hot Boys, and later solo, Wayne has made a massive impact on music & the charts. In 2010 he released I Am Not a Human Being while serving time in jail, and in 2012 he passed Elvis Presley as the male with most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (QRO photos at a Billboard festival). While we wait & wait for the long-delayed Tha Carter V, he comes to Float Fest.

Cashmere Cat, Water Stage, 6:45 PM – 7:45 PM

From cold Norway to hot Texas comes Magnus August Høiberg, a.k.a. Cashmere Cat (QRO photos at a festival).

Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Sun Stage, 6:00 PM – 6:45 PM

New Orleans’ Preservation Hall has been preserving the iconic city’s jazz tradition not just in the Big Easy but also around the world thanks to the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (QRO photos), who having been bringing Dixieland to other lands since the founding of the hall back in the sixties.

Out of Oxford and discovered by Adele’s producer, Glass Animals (QRO photos) bring their more mixed indie (QRO photos outdoors) on 2016’s sophomore release How To Be a Human Being to Float Fest (QRO live review).
Glass Animals
Snoop Dogg, Water Stage, 7:00 PM – 8:15 PM

Do you really need to be introduced to Snoop Dogg (QRO photos at a festival)? Unless your flight from Sydney crashed on that island from Lost with The Others for the past near thirty years, you’ve seen Snoop (QRO photos) from his part in Death Row Records’ West Coast rap ascendance (QRO photos on the West Coast) with “Gin and Juice” through his legal troubles and ‘less-than-amicable’ split from Death Row to today’s chart-topping success in hip-hop, mainstream, and more.

His high profile and relatively laid-back but charming persona these days have also made him ubiquitous on screen, whether cameoing as himself in everything from Showtime’s Weeds to T-Mobile Sidekick ads, or filling the quintessential pimp role as Huggy Bear in the big screen remake of Starsky & Hutch, to hosting such television shows at Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party (with that felon Martha Stewart) and the reboot of The Joker’s Wild. He even curated a Game of Thrones official mixtape (QRO photos from release party with Snoop).

More recently, he adopted the name ‘Snoop Lion’ for a more reggae personality (QRO photos at a festival as Snoop Lion), and gospel this year with Bible of Love, but has been mixing and matching both canine & feline Snoops on last year’s Neva Left and live. He’s also an expert at wooing the lily-white indie-crowd (QRO photos at a festival), and doesn’t forget his classics like Doggy Style (QRO photos performing Doggy Style at a festival), as he mixes weed with water at Float Fest.

Toadies
White Denim, Water Stage, 5:15 PM – 6:00 PM

Out of Austin’s psychedelic rock scene comes White Denim (QRO live review at home in Austin), but they’re more accessible than most psych-rock (QRO live review), like on 2016’s Stiff (QRO review).

Joywave, Sun Stage, 4:30 PM – 5:15 PM

The indie-pop of Rochester’s Joywave (QRO photos) hit Float Fest behind last year’s sophomore full-length, Content.
