!!!, 11:00 PM – 12:30 AM Sacramento dance-punk act !!! (QRO photos) – pronounced “chk chk chk” – were seriously blowing people away a decade-and-a-half ago (QRO live review) with Myth Takes (QRO review), then seemingly disappeared, only to come back (QRO live review) in 2010 with the somewhat derivative Strange Weather, Isn’t It (QRO review). But the now-New York outfit (QRO live review in New York) came back in force with 2013’s great TH!!!ER (QRO review), and the band (QRO spotlight on) still knows how to liven it up live & outdoors (QRO live review outdoors), even at festivals (QRO photos at a festival), or even overseas (QRO photos at a European festival). 2015 saw the strong As If (QRO review), then 2017’s Shake the Shudder (QRO review), 2020’s Certified Heavy Kats EP (QRO review), and last year’s Let It Be Blue (QRO review). Mixer Rogers, 10:00 PM – 11:00 PM From playing the first notes of the first Austin City Limits Festival over twenty years ago in his old band SpaceTruck, Cam Rogers has been making music, now as DJ Mixer Rogers, returning to Utopia. |

The Octopus Project, 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM A local who’s been around the world, Austin’s own The Octopus Project (QRO photos at an Austin festival) is one of the few instrumental indie bands that’s as riveting to watch as any with a singer (QRO photos at a festival). The Octopus Project (QRO photos at an Austin festival) return to Levitation (QRO photos at Austin Psych ’14) to bring a refreshing élan to post-rock electronica, such as 2009’s Golden Beds EP (QRO review), 2010’s HEXADECAGON audio-visual project, and 2017’s Memory Mirror. They’re also known for their wide range of instruments (and the fact that everyone seems to switch around what they’re playing each time), from guitar to theremin (QRO photos at a festival). And they bring come class wherever they play, thanks to their suit & ties – and the Yvonne Lambert’s ballroom gowns (QRO photos at an Austin festival). They play Eclipse Utopia Saturday twice. |
