The second album by the lively electro-rock duo from Gothenburg, Sweden is a bouncing, jumbled, fun mess. An impressive array of psychedelic effects fuel the thoroughly danceable grooves and create a wired, party atmosphere from start to finish. A New Chance justifies every bit of their energetic reputation and dazzles as a rocktronic cross-over.
At home in party lounge, A New Chance is youthful edge and bounce throughout. It begins with "Something Special", a club-jumping, piano-driven disco style emphasized by a jungle-esque beat that sets the album's tone. "First Class Riot" is an 80's-style coaster with a similar romping rhythm. "The Last Dance" is slightly more serious, but no less engaging.
As the song titles "First Class Riot" and "Neo Violence" indicate, The Tough Alliance shows a hedonistic disregard on A New Chance that fully emphasizes a care-free, destroy-all party atmosphere. The Swedish duo creates a light, but multi-faceted mix of synth, drum-and-bass, and call-to-action vocals. A New Chance is sublimely modern and recreational masterpiece.
