Jane’s Addiction’s fresh singles, “Imminent Redemption” and “True Love” are exactly what one could only dream of coming from them, this is in no way to say they are perfect.
Hoping for hope from such an energetic and emotional band is what one always does. Too often has Perry Farrell & company’s band of ra-ra-ra excitement and joy also seemed downtrodden; here they seem both spiritual, if just of course in the name of “Imminent Redemption”, which incidentally also sounds great with a kicking and tripping bass line, but also happier and hopeful as ever in the emotionally pristine if hard-pressed to say perfect lyrics of “True Love”. Wherein true love is in an existential way perfect because it is love at all. It also sounds great with Dave Navarro’s gentle guitar-picking and rhythms as special and divine as the lyrics themselves. Both singles are true to form of grungy ‘90s jazz-rock-fusion and true to their own spirits, joyful, happy, but happy in a sentimental way in this instance which is why Jane’s Addiction is hope by definition.
