2024 is going to be a Hell of a year, from (once again) do-or-die-for-democracy elections to what’s sure to be (once again) the hottest summer on record. We all need to start it out on a positive note, and (once again), thank God for The Vaccines, who deliver just that (once again) with their wonderful Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations.
By this point, it’s not a surprise that West London boys know how to give you the power-pop that you’ve been looking for (even if you didn’t know you were looking for). They’ve had a slew of great records, topping themselves again & again, and even if Pick-Up can’t quite beat 2021’s amazing Back In Love City (QRO review), it’s still littered with hooks & pick-me-ups. There’s the lovin’ life of “Sunkissed”, followed by The Vaccines making breaking up fun in “Another Nightmare”. The group also throws one of its by-now-trademark sad curveballs, the sweet but wistful “Discount De Kooning (Last One Standing)”.
Who the hell knows where we’ll be in a year (or if we’ll even be here in a year), so get your good times where you can, as soon as you can. Thankfully, to start this epic 2024, The Vaccines have brought us a Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations.
