On Wednesday, May 6th, teen heart throbs Shwayze rolled up in smoke to Farmingdale, NY’s Crazy Donkey; headlining a show that could simply be described as “the boys your mother warned you about”. Before they even took the stage the room was packed so tight that people were watching from outside the windows.
Mickey Avalon – Hollyweird’s poster boy – warmed the crowd up with a sexually charged performance. A few lucky girls swapped spit with Mickey in the middle of his set when he threw himself toward the crowd. The ‘Kosher Salami’ was ushered off the stage by shrill screams of “I love you Mickey!”
For the evening, a slightly chilled New York crowd was teleported to sunny California via the sound of Shwayze and the very specific place that sound creates. They had the crowd moving the whole night playing old favorites (“Corona and Lime”, “Buzzin”, “Hollywood”, etc.) and a new song (“Rock ‘n’ Roll”) or two off their forthcoming release Let It Beat – out this July.
Shwayze’s posse floated around the stage through out the set like flying monkeys. They brought out a life sized cardboard cut out of Michelle Obama during “Rich Girls”, and exchanged an over sized construction paper joint for a real lit joint before turning it over to the barely legal crowd during the final minutes of the show.
