Letters To Cleo’s reunion has been a relaxed one, just an EP, Back to Nebraska (QRO review), and “weekend warrior” tours (QRO interview). They distinctly don’t take themselves too seriously, and are well aware that it’s not the nineties anymore. Holiday EP OK Christmas fits nicely into that.
Three Christmas covers and an original, but not the Christmas covers you know (and/or fear). The Kinks’ “Father Christmas” is a great original given a fun bop (and altered the lyrics about a machine gun to be anti-firearms), while original “Miss You This Christmas” is sweet Christmas love. Elvis Presley’s “If I Get Home On Christmas Day” is relaxed twang, and Dogmatics cover “X Mas Time (Sure Don’t Feel Like It)” is very Boston.
At just four songs, OK Christmas is a stocking stuffer, not a full-fledged package under the tree, but that means that it doesn’t wear out its welcome. Instead, a nice holiday treat.
