One year ago, QRO Brooklyn favorites Jones Street Station (QRO spotlight on) embarked on an incredibly ambitious Perennials project: to write & record one song each week for a full year, all fifty-two weeks. And this is with each member in different cities across the country. And now they’ve done! The herculean, fifty-three song effort (that includes a bonus New Year’s song) closes with “Dolly’s Lament”. The traditional folk lament sees Jones’ Johnny Hull duet with Liadain Clancy – only the second team-up in the entire Perennials project (the other was with their West Coast, female opposites, The Girls, in “Little Things” – QRO review).
Who knows where these songs will go from here (there’s a few too many for even a double-album…), but here’s hoping that Jones Street get back together physically some time soon – one show in all of 2013 (QRO photos) wasn’t nearly enough…
