In 2009, L Magazine opened up Northside Festival, showcasing the music in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. It’s grown since then, including a large ‘Innovation’ portion that can sometimes seem to make the music feel like an afterthought, but there still was music, Thursday-Sunday, June 8th-11th:
Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn benefit @ McCarren Park
Saro

It was back to McCarren Park for the other ticketed show there for Northside Festival. It started with the soulful sounds of Saro, who said that it was the first time he & his band had played the East Coast, yet sounded a lot tighter than someone who’d never performed on the Atlantic Seaboard before.
BJ the Chicago Kid

Maybe this is just because your correspondent is getting old, but prefer it when artists have a full band behind them, like BJ the Chicago Kid did. He could have just been him & a DJ, but instead not only had a full band, but also his own percussion rig front and center.
Miguel

Miguel is a definite showman. His bright shirt, dance moves, sticking his tongue out more than anyone this side of Miley Cyrus – and that doesn’t even get to the actual music, which had the crowd dancing.

Other notes:
-Swore I saw guy in the adult male rompers, the Kickstarter-funded ‘RompHim’…
Unfortunately missed:
-Aqualamb Records showcase @ Saint Vitus. Particularly wanted to know if The Space Merchants are named after the classic sci-fi novel of the same name.
