What are you going to do on New Year’s Eve? It’s been a question ever since there was a New Year’s Eve, ever since the Roberts Burns poem "Auld Lang Syne" was set to music. It’s fraught with pitfalls – going to the ‘right’ party, dodging all of the usually-don’t-drink-this-much-or-party-this-hard newbies on what’s become the ‘amateur night of drinking,’ the awkward ‘New Year’s Eve kiss’ moment, and whatever you’re at, you really can’t leave until after midnight. New York City has maybe more options than anywhere – as well as the last place you want to go, Times Square (talk about Amateur Night…), but unless you’re worried that the Mayans & Michael Bay were right and the world is going to end on 1/1/2012, hit up Matt & Kim, with Super Smash Bros. and Body Language at Hammerstein Ballroom to celebrate the end of 2011.
Brooklyn’s own Matt & Kim are a longtime favorite here at QRO (QRO spotlight on), and Johnson & Schifino know how to bring the party live (QRO live review), with fans that are even more exuberant – watch out for some serious crowd-surfing, right from the get-go (QRO live review), as well as stage-diving & more. They’re no strangers to playing holiday party nights, whether St. Patrick’s Day (QRO photos) or Halloween (QRO live review) – they’re not even strangers to Hammerstein (QRO venue review), having played there two years ago, opening for Weezer (QRO live review), on All-Hallow’s-Eve (QRO photos). And you know they’ll bring balloons… (QRO photos).
Opening the night will be computer tech DJs Super Smash Bros. & the electro-inventive Body Language (QRO photos).
