A rush of energy to the brain, UPSAHL is a name far familiar at QRO. A true fusion of pop and alternative artistry, UPSAHL continues her first headline tour stopping in at New York City venue Racket (QRO venue review) for a Friday, May 5th that was truly memorable. (Think, tossing condoms into the air?)

The release of 2022 EP Sagittarius follows 2021 album Lady Jesus, where we see the evolution of UPSAHL’s sound. In delivery, tracks like “Lunatic” and. “Douchebag” capture themes of relationships, love and its life cycle with an angsty, all too real backdrop that comes easy to listeners. It’s the same feeling we get from hearing.

With a night that paid tribute to the evolution of UPSAHL’s discography, highlights of the night included callbacks to the earlier releases of “Arizona” and “Drugs” to an audience that quoted back word for word. A feeling all around that left the experience truly timeless – and another reason we can’t get enough of the shifting landscape of pop music – it’s a fix we keep coming back to!

Themes of love, relationships  and its complexities intertwined with a distinct carefree presence set UPSAHL apart. With an endlessly cool girl persona, the release of the PHX TAPES: VOL 1 has us a bit ready to jumpstart this spring ahead – and if you are too, UPSAHL  is the artist you need to listen to.

We highly recommend checking out THE PHX TAPES: VOL 1 available on streaming. As well as giving the fall release of the Sagittarius EP a listen once – or maybe several times.
