The Revivalists have never hidden their intentions, from their name onward, bringing ‘up with life’ soul-blues to the likes of jam festivals and hipsters. Yet their positive energy can be quite infectious and moving, such as in the best of the new Pour It Out Into the Night.
Pour indeed starts with its most moving track, the cathartic emotion of “Kid”, which exerts one and all to look forward in hope, not despair. Admittedly, the uplift on Pour can get a little repetitive, but never unwarranted or unwelcome. And there are moments of other elements, such as the darker “Down In the Dirt” or particularly the slyer “How We Move”.
With their heart on their sleeve and in their music, The Revivalists channel the soul-blues sound that has never dominated, but has never gone away, either (yes, there are saxophone solos…). Once more they Pour It Out Into the Night.
