During the thirteen hours long sunbaked inaugural Sick New World festival the crowd was oblivious to the one-hundred-degree heat as they made their way between the four stages on Saturday, May 13th.
The Las Vegas Festival Grounds were the site of the festival’s alternative rock and metal throwdown that featured some of the best bands in the genre including Incubus, Korn, and The Deftones. The volume was loud, the crowd aggressive, and spirits high as tens of thousands of fans, most too young to have seen these bands in their prime, moshed and crowd-surfed their way into the night.
Here are a few of the highlights:

Soulfly

The former Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera led his current band Soulfly through a four-song set including Sepultura’s “Refuse Resist”.

Flyleaf

Lacey Sturm returned to the Texas rockers Flyleaf for the first time in eleven years, sounding rested and strong.

Melvins

Nobody expected to hear a cover of the Lennon/McCartney classic “I Want To Hold Your Hand”, yet the Melvins gave it to them.

Mr. Bungle

As if a Beatles cover wasn’t enough, Mike Patton and the boys in Mr. Bungle pulled out Spandau Ballet’s “True” while rocking an ‘I’m Not Gay But $20 is $20’ t-shirt.

Evanescence

Amy Lee invited P.O.D. frontman Sonny Sandoval on stage to help sing “Bring Me To Life” with Evanescence.

Korn

Jonathon Davis bringing down the house with Korn in a ‘90s-era purple velour tracksuit? Hell yes!
