Everything sucks today, and we could really use some of the more relaxed, cheerier indie-rock of yore, back when the biggest problem was Oval Office marital infidelity (and not mass pandemic death & rigged elections). Bringing more of that is more, the Los Angeles duo of Malcolm McRae and Kane Ritchotte, on their debut 1/2 EP.
Doing this best on the extended play is single “Elaborate Intentions” (QRO review), which has that kind of meandering SoCal alt-charm that the nineties had in spades. Other songs include the quiet-to-strings “Settled In” and the more sweeping smile of “The Way”.
At just five songs, 1/2 is an appetizer & introduction, not a main meal, but there is a follow-up coming in October. So, there will be more more.
