Karol G, 8:40 PM – 10:00 PM Hit Columbian reggaeton & Latin trap rapper Karol G is a true crossover artist, from “China” to team-up with Nicki Minaj on hit single “Tusa”. She comes to Lollapalooza behind this year’s Mañana Será Bonito. |
![]() |
Carly Rae Jepsen, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM Three words: “Call Me Maybe”. With that song, the third-place finisher of the 2007 season of Canadian Idol (the version where even the Simon Cowell clone is polite) reached massive fame, with what became the best-selling single worldwide in 2012. Carly Rae Jepsen (QRO photos at a festival) is still a pop star, but one of those alt-Canadian ones – the kind who’d be on Broadway in Cinderella. She comes back to Lollapalooza (QRO photos at Lollapalooza ’18) right after the release of The Loveliest Time. |
![]() |
Sofi Tukker, 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern form house duo Sofi Tukker (QRO photos at a ’21 festival). They’re a favorite for team-ups (QRO team-up single review) and commercials, and bring their jungle-pop back to Lollapalooza (QRO photos at a festival). |

He’s also best known for being one-half of the acclaimed Major Lazer (QRO photos at a festival), as well teaming up with Skrillex as Jack Ü (QRO photos). He was even mock-played by James Van Der Beek as a hilarious idiot in VICELAND’s What Would Diplo Do? – and what he would do is play Lollapalooza again (QRO photos at a festival). |

Billie Eilish, 8:45 PM Just try to catch electro-pop sensation Billie Eilish (QRO photos at a festival), who turned a lot of heads and hips with her debut single “Ocean Eyes” and EP Don’t Smile at Me, and then debuting at #1 in 2019 with the hit “Bad Guy” and WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? (QRO’s #1 Album of 2020, duh). She has since become one of, if not the, biggest stars on the planet (QRO photos), from the No Time To Die Bond theme song (QRO review) to playing the Democratic Convention with “My Future”. “Future”, fellow single “Therefore I Am” (QRO review), and much more came together in 2021 for killer follow-up Happier Than Ever (which also saw Eilish go blonde) (QRO photos at a festival). COVID canned her massive tour 2020 tour, and in the meantime she did some great livestreams (QRO photos at a taping), but she’s since come back to the road for giant gigs. Just watch out for her hordes of screaming female fans (QRO photos in Chicago) as she returns to Lollapalooza (QRO photos at Lollapalooza ’18) to headline. |

Portugal. The Man, 6:45 PM – 7:45 PM Lollapalooza draws from very farther up north with Alaska/Portland’s Portugal. The Man (QRO photos at a festival). The rambling grunge outfit garnered new fans with 2007 sophomore release Church Mouth (QRO review), and its unhinged alt-rock (QRO live review), though slipped somewhat since then, even while finally playing Europe (QRO photos at a European festival) and becoming a festival favorite (QRO photos at a festival). Their major label debut In the Mountain In the Cloud (QRO review) was more psych-lite, but they still bring it live (QRO live review), and even went Down Under (QRO photos at a festival) after 2013’s release of follow-up Evil Friends (QRO review), hitting both the festival circuit (QRO photos at a 2013 festival) and live gigs (QRO 2013 live review). They come to Tampa (QRO photos at a festival) touring 2017’s hit Woodstock (QRO review), which has vaunted them in popularity (QRO photos at a 2018 festival) thanks to big, Grammy-winning hit, “Feel It Still”. Now they’re back on the road (QRO photos at a festival just before everything shut down) and come to Chicago (QRO photos at a ’22 festival) for their fifth Lollapalooza, just after the release of Chris Black Changed My Life (QRO review). |

They play Lollapalooza for a third time (QRO photos at a festival). |
![]() |
Thirty Seconds To Mars, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM It would have been easy for pretty boy actor Jared Leto to go the pretty boy actor route (literally played “Angelface” in 1999’s Fight Club, but don’t talk about Fight Club…), but he has done different things, like his Oscar-winning portrayal of a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club, to forming 30 Seconds to Mars (QRO live review) with guitarist Tomo Milićević and drummer/brother Shannon Leto. Of course, he only moved into the emo-heartthrob arena, hardly a huge jump, but of course has found huge success and huge crowds of fans (QRO photos). Red Hot Chili Peppers, 8:30 PM How can you be into music and not know the Red Hot Chili Peppers (QRO photos at a ’22 festival)? RHCP (QRO photos) emerged from the same sweaty Los Angeles eighties music scene that gave birth to Jane’s Addiction & more, and the Peppers (QRO photos) mix alt-rock with the funkified bass of the one-and-only Flea plus the sexy energy of singular frontman Anthony Kiedis. Along with drummer/Will Ferrell-look-alike Chad Smith and guitarist John Frusciante, the band racked up awards and record sales with such classics as Mother’s Milk, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, “Higher Ground”, “Under the Bridge”, and much more. Frusciante left in 1992 to be replaced by Jane’s Addiction’s own Dave Navarro, before Frusciante returned in 1999 for the band’s biggest selling record ever, Californication. More recently, Frusciante has left again, to focus on his solo work (QRO review), replaced by upgraded touring guitarist Josh Klinghoffer for 2011’s I’m In You (QRO review) and 2017’s year’s strong The Getaway (QRO review). But of course, Frusciante came back, ‘cause ain’t nothin’ stoppin’ the Red Hot Chili Peppers (QRO photos), who come back to Lollapalooza (QRO photos at a festival) for fifth time (including once in the nineties) to headline (QRO photos headlining a ’23 festival), touring (QRO ’22 live review) behind this year’s Ultimate Love and Return of the Dream Canteen. |
