Atrocious band name aside, Grandpa Was A Lion has got a lot to offer in the vein of laidback, synth-inflected pop ballads. Each song is a quiet little moment of introspection with its own unique textural landscape. Think: Antlers, but more of a one-man band. The four song EP Archaic is uniformly satisfying; it has the feel of ultra-polished bedroom pop, which means complexity builds in layers as opposed to the increasing convolution of a single instrument. At times you can’t help but see the oscillating graphics of laptop sound production flickering tediously in your mind’s eye. But when it works, it works wonders of ambient pop bliss.
