Fred again..

Fred again.. played three nights at Forest Hills Stadium....
Fred again.. : Live
Fred again.. : Live

Talk about living up to the hype! On Friday, October 13th, Fred again.. played three wildly anticipated shows at New York City’s Forest Hills Stadium (QRO review) after the smash success of his Actual Life albums. If you’ve been living under a rock, those three records have propelled DJ/producer/songwriter Fred again.. to new heights. Part of the success is tied to how those releases ended up being a soundtrack to many during the COVID-19 pandemic. They’re moments across those albums that evoked the sensation of human connection during a time we all needed it the most. But how do you take an intimate experience like an album and translate it into a live show?

Fred again..

After seeing Fred again.. live, it’s clear that’s been his mandate and the whole show is designed around that: human connection. With shows of this scale, of course the stage production and lighting were impressive, but the most impressive aspect was how crucial the audience factored into the show’s success. Fred again.. spent nearly equal amount of time off stage as he did on, making sure to be within the crowd multiple times, touching hands and even having dancing audience members enlarged on the projection screens.

Having the show designed this way, put the sincerity, passion and emotion of the performer and audience in near-unison. Simply put, at a Fred again.. show the crowd is the key ingredient to the overall experience.

It’s such a special thing to witness an artist like that, who’s achieved this much success, and how clear he doesn’t care for the spotlight. In doing this, Fred again.. and his crew somehow made Forest Hills Stadium feel like a house party. Standout moments from the night were the live renditions of “Adore You” and major fan favorite, “We’ve Lost Dancing”. That last song especially, the way the crowd reacted to that song was the apex of the show. A beautiful moment that vividly contrasted with how just a few years ago we really did lose dancing, we really didn’t see friends for ages and ages. Fred again.. shows are only going to get bigger from here, but it is very impressive to see an artist make such a commitment towards putting the audience first and striving to make a show that feels special to everyone.
