DMA's : How Many Dreams?

The last release from Sydney’s DMA’s was entitled THE GLOW (QRO review), and the band still does, full of the kind of hope we haven’t seen since the nineties. Indeed, there’s an obvious Brit-pop throwback, even rave, on latest album, How Many Dreams?, that might not be massively inspired, but is definitely accessible.

From the big, expressive hope of the opening titular track, Dreams is an album of neon positivity, dancing at the club out of love, not fear. There are greater moments, such as that piece and fellow early tracks the fuzzy “Olympia” and sweeter “Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s the Weekend”, if also weaker, more simplistic pieces (“Forever”, “Jai Alai”). And it all ends with “De Carle”, which feels like it could have come out of a rave headlined by Underworld back when the twenty-first century looked to be good.

It might seem like the world is careening into destruction, but there are still those who not only hope, but have infectious hope, like the DMA’s on How Many Dreams?.
