Cold War Kids : Cold War Kids EP

When a musical act has been around long enough, they can drop between-album EPs just for their fans. It’s not a full record, it’s not something they’re touring off of, there aren’t sings, you might never hear these songs live, but it’s still sweet. Such is the case with Cold War Kids EP.

At five songs, CWK EP (to distinguish from last year’s Cold War Kids full-length – QRO review – another hallmark of having been around a while is the eponymous album) is kind of a throwback to the old EPs when size of the physical release dictated the number of songs. It starts with the Cold War Kids up-lift of “Heaven In Your Hands”, and then brings the band’s great energy with “Feel Too Much” and the funky “Scandalized”. “Envy” is a slow, restrained change-up from father/frontman Nathan Willett (QRO interview), and it closes with the big soul of “Holding Back the Days”.

Obviously a treat for fans (it was released on vinyl for Record Store Day), Cold War Kids EP is still a nice addition to the group’s long history.
