Claud : Supermodels

Sad girl pop is expanding. What once got pigeonholed by music critics (including your correspondent…) has since reached high & wide. Now, Claud’s wonderful Supermodels might be on the saddest girl imprint out there, Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory, but they do more with the sound without losing its central appeal.

Yes, there are songs about break-ups, because this is still the 2020s. There’s the conversational “Every Fucking Time”, but also the quiet/loud broken up “Moving On”. Yet Claud can also be relaxed charming, like the titular actor “Paul Rudd” – and bring the bigger celebration synths with “A Good Thing” (whose video features the actual Paul Rudd!). Meanwhile, there’s also the more indie-rock “Dirt”, airier closer “Screwdriver” and fuzzier “Glass Wall”.

So, whether you’re sad, happy, or other; girl, boy, or other – even if you’re not Paul Rudd or one of those Supermodels, listen to Claud.
