Clementine Creevy’s Cherry Glazerr has been known for being part of the current wave of neo-Riot Grrrl punk rock icons (VICE even did a short documentary on her entitled “Clementine Creevy: The Millennial Punk Feminist Icon”). But her work has shown hints of something more, while not abandoning the base, as in Stuffed & Ready.
Stuffed delivers strong indie-punk moments, like opener “Ohio” and big rock calls “Stupid Fish” and “Distressor” at the end. But there are also pieces where that sound is mixed with other elements. “Daddi” goes into a more gothic-punk direction. The speedier “That’s Not My Real Life” (featuring Delicate Steve) is both speedier, and has a nice echo to its catch. The synthy and airy “Pieces” might be a step too far, but the ambition of “Juicy Socks” is punk, yet also more.
Creevy’s Cherry Glazerr (there is a somewhat revolving door with other members) is definitely “Millennial Punk Feminism”, and doesn’t need to reinvent this new wheel. But she is adding more to it.
