L.A.’s ASHRR have kept very busy during the last year and a half, releasing a string of singles we have covered here at QRO. After “WAVES” (QRO review), “Dark Eyes” (QRO review), and “Otherside” (QRO review), on Friday, November 12th, they have released “Same Way”.

The song follows the path opened by “Waves” and “Otherside” of being uplifting, with that lovely blend of the ‘90s and early 2000s indie rock with guitars and bass patterns courtesy of the two melodic forces in the band – Josh Charles and Ethan Allen – energetic drums crafted by Blair Sinta and with lyrics delving into the matter of evolution and change, moulded by singer Steven Davis.

Proving they’re the masters of the uplifting, the song refuses to let the convulse times we’re still immersed in sip through the sound. Davies points out that things that happen can dampen our joy and optimism, but ultimately depends on us to regain the strength to go forward, no matter what.

Tight, compact, forthright, uncomplicated, “Same Way” emphasizes the intensity and endurance of guitar indie rock but it may be the last in the line of this style for a while, as the band is finalizing their awaited second album, a work that will get inspiration in some of their staples (Bowie, U2) to evolve and change, and thus keep offering the best music possible.

The kind of change the band will capture has been teased on their Instagram account, and more will be revealed in due course.
